Sometimes you may think you’re an optimist. I did this for a long time but only when I started to listen to my inner dialogue did I begin to realize how pessimistic I was. So if you believe you’re an optimist right now it may be worth your time listening to your inner monologue. If you find yourself dwelling on what could go wrong you may be pessimistic.  While most people tell you that it’s better to be one or the other. The truth is they both have benefits that are going to help you in life. So whether you’re an optimist or pessimist you can still take the time to find out your strong points and work with them!

Optimist or Pessimist – Pros and Cons

Whether you’re an optimist or pessimist you are going to benefit. The only choice you have to make is what you believe will benefit you most. You are not stuck being one or the other. So if you’re not happy being a pessimist work on being an optimist. And if you feel like you need to become more down to earth, then try to think pessimistically once in a while.

Optimism Benefits

You’ll become expansive –  When you are a pessimist you are more prone to shy away from life and new experiences. However, when you adopt an optimistic mindset you will embrace any new situation and grow from it. Think of all the new ideas and new lessons you will learn! If this doesn’t want to make you know how to become an optimist I don’t know what will.

Be happier and healthier – It goes without saying when you’re optimistic you will inevitably lead a happier life. You won’t sweat the small stuff and be bogged down by it. But did you also realize that you will become healthier? Without the constant stress of pessimistic thoughts in your head, your body won’t release as much cortisol and you’ll live a healthier life!

Overcome failure better – We are all going to fail at some point in our lives, chances are the more optimistic you are the more you are going to fail. And this is a good thing. When you fail and fail correctly it means one thing. You are trying new things and expanding your comfort zone. When you have the ability to go from failure to failure without losing heart. You are bound to end up successful!

Pessimism Benefits

Boosts productivity – When you’re pessimistic you don’t have the belief that everything is going to work out for you. Instead, you believe that it’s down to you to get the life you want. Therefore you work a lot harder than someone who is optimistic. Having anxiety in the back of your mind about your future causes your productivity to be boosted.

Hard to get disappointed – When you always prepare for the worst it’s hard for you to ever get disappointed. This is one of the best perks of being a pessimist. If you never have any expectations you can’t be let down. But when something does go right you’re even more happy that it happened because you didn’t expect it!

You know when to quit – I am not a fan of quitting. I don’t think you should ever quit unless there’s no other choice. But knowing when it’s time to throw in the towel and stop wasting time and energy is super important. So being a pessimist can help you realize when it’s not going to work and that it’s time to move onto something else.

Optimist or Pessimist – What Should You Choose?

If you haven’t figured it out already then the answer is both. We all know that too much of anything is bad and this should be considered in your mindset. There’s nothing wrong with being optimistic or pessimistic. The problem begins when you’re too much of one or the other. The ideal way to live your life is to prepare for the worst but hope for the best. So whether you’re an optimist or pessimist, maybe it’s time that you take some traits from both. It may benefit you more than you think!
